Ffestiniog Interactive II Gala, May 2003
The timetable showed Linda & Mountaineer double-heading the next up train, so we decided to go down to Penrhyn to see them working hard. I was chastised for misreading the timetable as we strolled round the corner above the crossing and met Taliesin rolling down over the road, a quick thinking response was that it wasn't a good spot for taking pictures of down trains!
Linda & Mountaineer raised echoes from the other side of the valley as they departed from Penrhyn. As James watched them get get closer he quickly realised that a) as they got nearer the noise was going to get much louder and b) he was at exactly the same height as the two chimneys, so the noise was going to get VERY MUCH LOUDER! James decided that sticking his fingers in his ears was much safer than trying to take photographs of fire breathing monsters!
We would like to thank the Station Master at Minffordd who spent a while patiently explaining to James how the token instruments worked, then took us over show us the bottom end ground frame and demonstrate how the token released the frame. James had been puzzled by the presence of three instruments, but explaining how Rhiw Goch was switched in and out solved that mystery.
