Talyllyn Railway Vintage Train

On arrival at Dolgoch, first priority was to deal with Talyllyn's requirements.  Once the the loco had been watered we found that the timetable gave us an extended stop here, so discussions took place as to what we could do to set up a few photo opportunities.  There was some uncertainty over what the rule book said about propelling passenger trains over Dolgoch viaduct, but as nobody was going to be on board, the crew decided that run pasts from beyond the viaduct were in order.  A couple of runs were made over the viaduct, stopping each time in the cutting below the footbridge.  Finally the train was brought to a halt alongside the old water tower to await departure time to set off for the scheduled crossing of the next down train.

The extended stop allowed time to wander around Dolgoch and view the location from a few unusual angles, in particular what I thought was an interesting view of the train looking east, rather reminiscent of an old Hamilton Ellis photograph of the station in the 1940s when the brake van was out of use.
