Steam Railway Magazine Readers Weekend, September 2003

At last - photos of passenger trains at Rhyd Ddu.

So much for good intentions!  I uploaded these pages whilst in Wales and promised they would be reorganised in a few days, so here we are in March 2004....  Anyway, there will be a few additions from the slides taken at the same time in the next few days - and I mean it this time!

Travelling to North Wales on Friday did not look promising, the windscreen wipers were busy all the way from Llangynog over the hills and on to Cwm Prysor.  Things began to look up as entering the Vale of Ffestiniog blue sky could be seen over the hills to the north and soon the sun burst through and the clouds vanished even from the summit of Snowdon.

On arrival at Rhyd Ddu, the Funkey was running round its train.  Hopping on the open carriage, nobody else seemed interested in the best place to see the scenery, perhaps they hadn't wrapped up against the cold and didn't fancy wiping the seats before sitting down.  The extension more than lives up to all the expectations, the scenery must be some of the finest seen from an railway in Britain, well worth the trip!
